BNB ARTIST CHECK-IN : JBIZNESS

BNB Artist Check-in
JBIZNESS

What are you currently working on?

Basically, doing what I wanna do for a change. I produced track #12 (Before The Night Is Over) on Little Brother's last LP, LeftBack in April 2010. That was an unexpected blessing.

ALSO: I'm doing a monthly segment on the OkayPlayer site, FWMJ's Rappers I Know called J. Bizness' 3P Series. 3 new songs, every month, from 1 different artist, all produced by me. We started in April and now we're heading into month 3 (June).

Aside from those, we'll see what the future holds.

Have you done any collabs since BNB last heard from you?  If so, who are you working with?

- I solely produced a project with Trek Life called Rhymes Within Reason which was released at the end of March 2010. I'll also be featured on Trek Life's new LP, Everything Changed Nothing (produced by Oddisee), in July 2010. I hoping to finish collaborations with a few different artists this year. Can't say much until things are finished. I just ended a mini tour called The Cali Famous Tour w/ Trek Life, Basicali, and Hawdwerk & Jansport J.

BNB's forever gonna be a huge fan of yours, BUT who are YOU a fan of these days?

Mr. Sobers aka Maestro Montana, Richard Wright, Skeem Price, Tomorrow Yesterday, Diamond District, Strong Arm Steady, The Foreign Exchange, Grizzly Bear, Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Mic Holden, Mykestro, Willie B, Hawdwerk & Jansport J, Buff1, St. Vincent, Toro Y Moi... Countless others.

If you could put together your dream tour, who would it include?

Most of the names above would make for a GREAT tour. Mr. Sobers aka Maestro Montana, Richard Wright, Skeem Price, Tomorrow Yesterday, Trek Life, and Diamond District for starters.

Anything else you wanna say to the people?

I'm just thankful for the opportunity to share music that I like with like-minded folks. I'm VERY humbled by people's interest in hearing from me & my folks and I hope everyone continues to tune in. Thank YOU again, BNB, for reaching out to little ol' me.

Truth = I'm about my little girl and my paper, FORREAL!

Motown 25 : Niles Heron

I guess this is a chain letter of sorts, but I thought it was a great way to get to know Niles Heron, BNB's newest blog addition.

thaaaanks Facebook!

1. I hate chain letters, pass it on texts, and do-this-or-you-will-never-
orgasm-again notes.

2. I hate that I have enough free time to write this. I should be working.

3. I love scotch (scotchy scotch scotch... Here it goes down... Down into my belly.)

3a. Macallan 15 or 18 means I'm changing my pants.
3b. GlenFiddich is garbage
3c. BevMo sells 1.75 Liters of Gentleman Jack for $42.99
3c1. I bought the aforementioned bottle, and I may never finish it.
3c2. BevMo is brilliant.

4. I've spent the last two months trying to write a review of the King James Version by Houseshoes. I've tried recording it memoir style, writing it long-hand, and free-association typing... Nothing is worthy of the work relfected in it.

5. Sometimes I really feel like I'm better than some people.

6. Swagger on a hundredthousandtrillion.

7. I don't like many people who don't like Dilla &.
7a. Dilla Dawg &
7b. Pay Jay &
7c. Jay Dee
7d. Fuck T-Pain

8. I will surely contract all diseases and conditions that 30 years from now will be associated with heavy blackberry use.
8a. I would implant this phone into my arm if given the chance, just so I could look like a mixture of a pro quarterback and someone from star trek.
8b. I'm not actually upset that James T. Kirk was driving in the star trek preview, I just like to watch trekkies get mad.
8c. Trekkies remind me of furries with less shame.

9. I'm grateful for every day I wake up.
9a. If you don't actively feel grateful for your life, each and every day, something is wrong with you.

10. My first newspaper article was published in the Michigan Citizen when I was 17.

11. I hate you too.
11a. ...

12. I love you
12a. you are a different person than those people (that's a plural you) referenced in 11.

13. I've performed in front of crowds, small and large, and the closest thing to peace I've found on earth is being on a stage with a mic.
13a. Those of you who have been there, know what I'm sayin.

14. My album may never be finished. But if and when it is, I will be proud of it, and it won't sound like any shit you've (n)ever heard.

15. Watching the people around me flourish over the past 3 years has been the most inspiring moment of my life. Watching the homies get signed, make records, tour the world, and stay true to themselves makes me proud as shit, even though I had nothing to do with their success.

16. Me and high school didn't get along.
16a. So I left.
16b. I started college when I was 17.
16c. Me and michigan didn't get along.
16d. So I left.
16e. LA and I get along quite well.

17. I am working to put an event on on Feb. 21st called Detroit vs. Los Angeles (2 Detroit DJs vs. 2 LA DJs) @ Cranes Hollywood Tavern.
17a. I am tired as shit of going to listen to uninspired DJs play uninspiring music and then put their hands in the air at the end of the night like they didn't just play on the computer for 2 hours.
17b. My fucking ipod is better at blending than you.
17c. My car stereo (treble bumped, bass off, faded to the passenger side rear) with a scratched copy of bel biv devoe has better taste than you.
17d. I mean that shit (really).

18. I want people to feel music the way I feel music.
18a. I don't know that it will happen, but I believe like it's sunday morning.

19. I MC / Host my homie J1's weekly every saturday night at Carbon (9300 Venice)

20. Whenever I put in time to finish school I will be a Sociology / Something-Maybe-Journalism-More-Likely-Business Major.

21. I work on campus for one of the nations largest bio-tech companies doing database support and training for research and discovery (among other things)
21a. There is not a whole lot crazier then when you walk into work and talk to a colleague who just patented a molecule that blocks tumors from taking on any nutrients, forcing them to eat themselves -- thus effectively curing cancer that's caught before metastasis.
21b. It's even crazier when you hear about little rats who they test the drugs on (i hate it, but better a rat than a human) grow random appendages.
21c. I'm the youngest employee at my company, and i hope I'm never hourly again.

22. My life may never end up on film, but I will write a book about it for those interested.

23. I have been blessed.
23a. By something. By Someone. By it. By Him. By Her. By Them. I don't know by whom, I just know what a blessing feels like.

22. Some people really deserve to get slapped in the mouth for the stupid shit they say.
22a. I don't have a problem being the person to slap someone in the mouth for the stupid shit they say.

23. My mouth gets me in all kinds of trouble -- I'm a smug bastard who doesn't care what you think.

24. My friends are my family.

25. My family is me.

That was grueling.

J. Bizness

The Re-emergence of the West Coast Sound

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - April 9, 2009 - J. Bizness, Los Angeles winner and national finalist of Red Bull Big Tune 2008, readies the release of his debut hip hop instrumental album. The album titled Reason: Beats & Pieces is set to release under the artist's own imprint Illregular Instrumentals, LLC. online for digital distribution only, on Itunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, and Napster on June 9, 2009.

Amidst several budding artists hailing from the West Coast, with music blurring the sounds between genres, eras, and regions, a familiar yet modern sound emerges from newcomer J. Bizness. Solely using Propellerhead's Reason program, J. Bizness produces Reason: Beats & Pieces; a masterful work that displays the wide spectrum that is hip hop. With dark tracks like "PBS" to soulful samples like "Choppy", this debut album exhibits the versatility of his talent. Heavily influenced by producers like DJ Battlecat, DJ Premier, and J. Dilla, J. Bizness takes a fresh approach to creating music using unconventional sounds while marrying them to the classic West Coast flavor.

J. Bizness has worked with the lauded underground Los Angeles emcee, Trek Life and was featured on his 2006 release "The Price I've Paid" amongst notable producers as DJ Babu, Evidence and DJ Rhetmattic, in which he produced and co-wrote 2 tracks. He was also featured on the 2003 release "Heaven Cent" by Prophit P.A.N.I.C., earning a nod for the Independent Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards.

BNB ARTIST CHECK-IN : ABSTRACT BUTTA FINGAZ

BNB ARTIST CHECK-IN
ABF aka ABSTRACT BUTTA FINGAZ

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a new full length project, I wanted it to be 80% collaborations with LA rappers, and Vocalists. So far the artists who have jumped on board are, MPRVS, Carmen Smith, Jimetta Rose, Shania D and there are other instrumentalists involved in it this time like Spel.

Have you done any collabs since BNB last heard from you?  If so, who are you working with?

Since 'Because I'm Beautiful' I released an EP on a Macedonian Label called 'The Sleeper'. It featured, K the I???? and singer songwriter Olga Montes.

It got some love and a great review on BLEEP.COM so they asked me to deliver a full length Album. 'The Rise of the Elephant Kingdom' was released on 5/17/10 and it includes underground cats from a few different places. Ekundayo from Atlanta drops a cameo, Shania, ETC crew, Tamara Blue and a couple of MCs from Tijuana; Caveman and MC Vigo and of course Anodyne's own LA Organic MC, El Sufi/ Osirus.

I also worked on a very dope Jazz/electronic project called 'Frank Hill' with Alcendor, Foniks and Julien Winter (Germany).

I am currently producing an album for the French born and raised multi talented musician Spel. It is a genre breaking album combining his influences in Hip Hop, Rock and Reggea with a hint of Dubstep. The message behind it is very powerful. Here's a clip from our last collaboration from his EP 'Cryosleep': http://www.amazon.com/Space-Station-4000/dp/B002BNUEVY

I am also working on a live electronic project/band called 'Chinatown'. We've been playing shows, rehearsing and writing songs and hope to be in the studio by July recording. The sound is a very Bass heavy slow groovy take on the Jam band concept and includes a guest saxophone and guest Bass guitar.

In collaboration with Alcendor, I just finished an album called 'Daddy Day Care' in celebration of our 1 year as stay at home Dad's. It will be released on Filter this year. Here's the promo video:

This summer, I am curating what will be a very dope compilation of some LA artists who will surprise, thrill and amaze you. Unfortunately I cannot disclose any information about this project at this time...

BNB's forever gonna be a huge fan of yours, BUT who are YOU a fan of these days?

Ras G has Landed on Planet Earth and folks ain't ready yet...haha

Ta'raach is doing his thing, and I been following his music for a few years and I am never dissappointed. Shit, I got an 'As one' Album featuring that Cat. Prolific is the word.

Samiyam's hard ass beats are always in rotation in my sets or in my headsets.

Alcendor put out a sick CD called 'End of an Age'

NSOK's 'Make your own god' on Filter. Slow smoked out beats, like DJ shadow on an acid trip http://www.digital-tunes.net/news_articles/nsok_make_your_own_god

Ravage Beats, Pasadena resident who carves out some of the most hard hitting sensitive shit I ever heard http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ravage-Beats-2012/141283702931?v=info

Fishscale, a vicious beat making crew with legendary DJ Plan 9 on the helm http://fishscale.bandcamp.com/

If you could put together your dream tour, who would it include?

a dream tour would include my favorite MC's like, Trek life, NOCANDO, Alpha MC, BlackBird, Immortal Tech, Ta'raach, Blu, Madlib, Quasimoto, Amiri Dialect, Rootsmanuva etc. With producers like Ras G, Alcendor, Samiyam, GB, Prefuse, Mr Scruff, NSOK, Foniks and I would totally accept an invitation to join these cats...

Anything else you wanna say to the people?

FIGHT THE POWER!!!!!

What You Missed:
