Shafiq Week Continues!

Shafiq week continues at BNB Headquarters. In addition to coppin official copies of the album, BNB has shown full support to this project. We have twittered, facebook'd, and talked up "En' A-Free-Ka" as much as possible this week because we completely and fully LOVE this album.

BNB celebrated the album release with Shafiq and friends at Turntable Lab, for a listening party and in-store. The energy was great and the free Colt 45 (lol) was flowing. I think I even saw a couple Jarritos floating around.
Wednesday night was another great one, where we celebrated at Shoes House. Shafiq was present, but tired, and played the background this go round. The album pumped through the speakers and kept the vibe circulating as House Shoes and J1 traded off on the tables. Detroit's Danny Brown rounded out the night with a classic live performance. Another great night. Shouts to Big Pooh, Big Dho, Rocio, and Andres.

More to come, its only Thursday!

Guilty Simpson - Coroner's Music/OJ Simpson
12-inch single (Digital available now, vinyl on the way)

The charisma that Detroit’s heavy hitting MC Guilty Simpson and the Los Angeles based Beat Konducta Madlib share is undeniable. A string of songs going back to Guilty’s first appearance on wax (Jaylib’s “Strapped”) testify to a musical kinship that is rare in today’s rapper-as-an-accessory marketplace. To us, Guilty over a Madlib beat is like hearing Guru over Premier circa Daily Operation, or CL over Pete around the time they recorded “Straighten It Out.” Some times, a rapper and a producer just work well together.

The two together making OJ Simpson, Madlib (Otis Jackson) and Guilty Simpson. OJ Simpson is the name of the album. No, you won’t hear Guilty make any references to bloody gloves. No, you won’t catch Madlib driving a bronco. These are some 14 hard hitting, straight from the gutter hip hop tracks featuring Guilty’s inimitable baritone and a couple guest appearances (Elzhi, Strong Arm Steady). Some cuts by J.Rocc. And a whole bunch of attitude. This is one of our favorite projects in a while.

We’re releasing this teaser single – the title track and the needs-nothing-more-than-the-title verbal onslaight that is “Coroner’s Music” - to remind you of the hip hop you’ve missed. The album drops this fall.

Who the EFF is the Vice Mayor?

We've said it tons of times. BNB loves exclusives. Lately, the BNB inbox has fallen victim to "randomness" and "mediocrity" when it comes to new music coming our way. Then came the Vice Mayor.

We have no idea who this dude really is, where he came from, or where he's going. What we DO know is that we love his sound. Upon asking some of our fellow tastemakers, nobody else seems to know who he is either. All BNB has been able to gather is that he is of Jamaican bloodline, is well traveled, has tasted of many fine wines, and is an intense digital musician. We also hear that he has just returned from a voyage to Barcelona, where he worked with acclaimed artist Celestial and began prep for his "Chastity vs Vanity" tour that may be happening later this year.

The Vice Mayor laced us with his premiere track entitled, "Paradise" (or "pair a dice"...whichever you fancy), and we've got it here for you:

Get "Paradise" here:

and here's more info on the Vice Mayor:
soundcloud.com/vicemayor

Keep your ears to the street, and check in with BNB for much more on this dude. We are totally a fan of the Vice Mayor.
