Happy Birthday Baatin

Titus Glover aka Scandalous-T aka BAATIN

BNB wants to honor a TRUE King, Baatin, on his creation day.
Happy Birthday friend, you are loved.

Baatin
  • The Hidden, The One that nothing is above Him and nothing is underneath Him, hence He exists without a place. He, The Exalted, His Existence is obvious by proofs and He is clear from the delusions of attributes of bodies.

Moment of Silence.

Twitter is commonplace for us all in 09, but just a minute ago I was silenced by a series of posts. A list of RIP's was circulated and RT'd, stemming from BNB brother @Rhettmatic, and it kind of stopped me in my tracks. At times we RT without even thinking, but this time I couldnt even do it. The list was long. And the names included friends. And it hurt.

So I want to take a moment of silence, to honor those mentioned on the list. And those not mentioned. And for my family, and your family that has gone on before us all. Take a second, pause your day, and really cherish the memories and honor the lives of those who have touched your life that are no longer on earth.

To The Friends and Fans of Titus "Baatin" Glover

Peace yall.

I havent really been able to blog lately. This Baatin shit had me emotionally locked up. I didnt (and still dont) know what to say to yall, except these few words.

Baatin was a friend of mine. Not just like I met him once backstage, but he was my friend. I loved his stories. I loved his metaphors. I loved his magic. I remember how he'd narrow his eyes when he was saying something that meant a lot to him, and hed speak real slow and rub his beard like a wise old man. And I remember how he'd say "FUCK that!" when things didnt go his way, and then kinda chuckle to himself afterward with personal amusement. I remember singing for him and his cousins MahChurach and Zara'el (aka 10 Speed and Brown Shoe) like 6 years ago, and Tin acting like he was a conductor while I belted out Jill Scott's "You Love Me" in a smoky hotel room. Ha, The Grafton hotel. We kicked it hella times at that hotel - walked to get sun chips and ice cream from the Pink Dot, tried to drink as much lemon water as we could at once by the pool so we wouldnt have to keep going back downstairs for more, freestyling a movie plot (which later turned out to become a true story). Dang, the movie plot. Back in like 03 Baatin made up a story, but the story was a film idea he had loosely put together. I remember him saying to me "this is how Ima get free, this is the part when I leave". I didn't get it until I heard he was officially out of the group that he was foreshadowing his departure in his "movie". He told me about a guy and his two cousins, who were all rappers (aka himself, MahChurach and Zara'el), going around the ghetto healing people. They healed with oils and lotions and incense, and sold these products to 'believers' who wanted to taste truth and righteousness. He said that his potions were his way out, and his way into a new life where he could float above all on a carpet and dream music through his two cousins. Crazy story, but it actually started to come true.
Enough reminiscing...
Baatin is and will always be a dynamic and often misunderstood character here on earth. He now is with the All, where his mind can finally rest and his heart can dwell on a new plane. To those who know Baatin (as I knew "Baatin" much better than I knew "Titus Glover"), and to those who respected him as a man and part of our musical generation, I want you to remember him as I did, as a representation of love, intelligence and creative energy manifested.

With love, honor and respect,
kyLA.

(thanks for letting me vent, yall)

Titus "Baatin" Glover, Rest In Power, 1974-2009

Baatin, nigga come back to earth.

There is nothing else to say.

I've been sitting here staring at an empty blog post window for 34 minutes and change.

I do have few notes before we let the beat ride out...

1. In the memory of 1/3 of the torch-bearing group of Detroit Hip-Hop, please respect the dead.

2. To my entrepreneurial brothas and sisters: DO NOT sell Baatin shirts and count profit for any reason other than to donate to his family (donations can be made via the rensoul.com link at the bottom)...

3. There are acapellas and instrumentals floating around: DO NOT "pay tribute" to tin the way y'all did that shit for dilla (i.e. by Remixing his first, middle, or last works and using it to Raise YOUR name up)... If you respect what Titus "Baatin" Glover meant to Detroit, and Hip-Hop, just think about what he meant to his family, and to his friends... They don't want to hear your vocals next to his...

3a. RAISE IT UP!
3b. RAISE IT UP!
3c. RAISE IT UP!

4. MAKE SOME MOTHER FUCKING NOISE.

5. FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.

6. Fuck this rap shit.

7. It's the Seven Eighty-Eight.

8. The whole world fell in love with the S...

---------

Ay, it's like a ritual
You been invited let the mortal body stimulate the place
With the grace, nevertheless, I stress
Let the music put a smile on your face
As for the ritual, when it comes to spiritual excellence
You know I always leave you with the taste
I know you like it hard to the core
That's what you ask for, you achin for the best
Hurtin like a sore in that ass, like a ritual
Conversation with the most high makes me wanna cry
I wonder why, you wanna get to paradise
But that itty bitty part of you don't wanna die
So pay attention to my word, cuz it's the truth
Meditation ease the mind, and brings the youth
It's like a verse you could never read out of a book
Droppin the line in your mind like a fish hook
Word is birth, yo I do it till the break of day
Pay attention to your art, never go astray
Word is bond

In Tribute. The Homegoing Celebration for Michael Jackson

Beloved BNB Friends and Family.
Truly we are all blessed to have been a part of the life and legacy of The King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. It is through his epic talent and love for music that we have all been influenced, and have come to cherish him as a part of our own families.
As his memorial service concludes, BNB wants to encourage our followers to keep his spirit alive as he has gone to be with God. In tribute, we have compiled reaction statements (via Twitter, of course) from some of OUR family. The BNB team watched, cried and marveled our way through the service along with the rest of the world, and wanted to share the reactions (serious, funny, etc) of our followers.

Pay respect, all. Celebrate the life and legacy. As House Shoes said a moment ago, [Michael Jackson is] ONE OF ONE.

Isaac Hayes - A Dedication.

After hearing of Isaac Hayes death, it took me a minute to really process it before I posted anything on BNB. I couldnt come up with a way to pay tribute to him that I felt was good enough. Ive been feeling hard pressed about posting an Rest In Peace dedication, but I just couldnt do it. Then I got this:

Words of DJ Haylow:

"I'm sure everyone has heard about the untimely death of two of the greatest members in the entertainment community, Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes. As shocking and devastating it is to hear that these to giants are no longer with us, I wanted to acknowledge they're passing and thank them for their contributions to the world.

Although Bernie Mac is a Legend in his own right, the loss of Isaac Hayes has impacted me more because of my love for music. To say he has left his mark in entertainment industry would be a huge understatement. Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Composer, Arranger, Actor, and Activist are a couple titles you can give him credit for, and in one way or another, whether we realize it or not, he has had an effect on us all. After hearing about is passing, I wanted to show my appreciation and gratitude, and I wanted to preserve his legacy the only way I know how.
On Monday, I put together a Mix of my favorite Ike songs, and even while recording it, he still did not cease to amaze me. His Funky, Soulful, Melodic, Smooth (I could go on!) sound will never be forgotten. Isaac Hayes, Rest in Peace.

Please Download the mix entitled "So Soulful", and feel free to share with anyone and everyone:

RIP - Frosty Freeze (RSC) &KL (Screwball)

This past week, we lost 2 Hip Hop greats.....Frosty Freeze of the Rock Steady Crew & KL of the group Screwball. Just like to give my respects.......

B-Boy & Dance Afficinados might remember Frosty Freeze as a member of the legendary Rock Steady Crew and as one of the dancers during the famous short but exciting Breakdancing scene in the movie "Flashdance". He was the B-Boy who did a move called the "Sucide" where the dancer actually jumps in the air and falls on his back. He was definitely a pioneer and an innovator of the B-Boy movement.

For more info on Frosty Freeze: http://whatyouwrite.wordpress.com/2008/04/03/rest-in-peace-wayne-frosty-freeze-frost-rock-steady-crew-forever/

KL was an emcee that was part of the group, "Screwball". He was a well-exceptional emcee that was droppin street bangers like "Hostyle". He and the group were signed to Tommy Boy Records in the mid 90's and worked with great producers like EZ Elpee and Dj Premier. This is what the great Dj Premier had to say:

"FOR THE TRUE HIP HOP HEADS THAT KNOW THIER HISTORY ABOUT MC'S THAT COME OUTTA QUEENSBRIDGE...KL OF THE BONAFIED GROUP SCREWBALL, DIED YESTERDAY OF AN ASTHMA ATTACK.
HIS HARDCORE DELIVERY AND RASPY VOICE WAS WELL KNOWN IN MANY CIRCLES OF RAW GUTTER LYRICS AND THE OTHER MEMBERS(Blaq Poet, Q'ran, and Hostyle) HAVE ALL MADE NAMES FOR THEMSELVES AS SOLOISTS AS WELL AS KL...AS SOON AS I GET DETAILS, I WILL BLAST OUT THE INFO FOR ANY OF YOU THAT IS INTERESTED IN SEEING HIM ONE LAST TIME...HE IS ALREADY UP IN GHETTO HEAVEN, SO HIS
MUSIC WILL LIVE THRU ALL OF US THAT LOVE HIM"
......
DJ PREMIER

Frosty Freeze & KL...you both will be missed. Thank you for blessings us with your talents.

Also on another note....I would like to send my condolence to my good friend Eric Coleman of MoChilla. HIs mother passed away 3 days ago. If you're in LA, they will be having a memorial at Firecracker in Chinatown tonight.

RIP Eazy-E : 13 Years Later...

Today blacknbling pays homage to a critical force in West Coast hip hop, Eazy E. 13 years ago today, Eric Lynn Wright aka Eazy-E passed away of complications as a result of the AIDS virus. Eazy was known for bangin with the Kelly Park Crips and making classic West Coast music. Ruthless Records // NWA put out some of the best rap music the 80's ever saw.

On a more personal note, Eazy was my cousin. So I definitely want to pay my respects to kinfolk. So yall, pour out a little liquor, have a moment of silence, or bang out to this song, in respect and love for the life of Eazy-E.
